Triathlon novel hits shelves
Boston, Massachusetts (July 29, 2008) – Finally, a novel centered on triathlons. There are hundreds of novels dramatizing many great sports, none of note focused on triathlons. Tim Durant has changed that statistic with Know Regrets: the story of Trip Johnson, a single father of two, who at the age of forty has a second chance to act on his dream of competing in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship Hawaii.
Everyone has a dream. Not everyone has the courage to act on it. Trip had always dreamed of racing in the Ironman. His dream hidden for so long, he became numb to its fire. When the dream reignites, and he finds the courage to act on it, the journey begins. Trip has a chance to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles amongst the best triathletes in the world. In order to reach his goal, he will draw upon more than physical strength, endurance and determination. His voyage takes him from the comfortable suburbs of Boston, to the wild nightlife of Waikiki, over to the forbidding lava fields of the Big Island, all on the path of pursuing a deeply seeded dream.
The scenes in Know Regrets had been developing in Durant's head for over 20 years. They started as day dreams during his long runs and rides as he trained for his first triathlons while living in Hawaii. Through the sweat and miles, these dreams slowly formed into a fun, adventurous and inspiring tale. Know Regrets shows great insight into the mystic of Hawaii, and reveals the greatness of triathlons and the athletes that compete in them, a glimpse of human nature and strength of the human spirit. If you liked Rocky, American Flyers or The Rookie, you will love Know Regrets.
"Tim has written about the Ironman like a true insider. I was reliving all the fears, exhilaration, drudgery, and pain." says Karen Smyers, Ironman Triathlon World Champion. "Know Regrets takes you on a mental and physical rollercoaster that we all feel when chasing something important."
Living with Crohn's disease has also motivated Tim to donate some of the proceeds from this book to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Know Regrets is available direct from the publisher at www.lulu.com and at many other retail outlets such as Amazon.com www.amazon.com , Barnes and Noble www.bn.com , and Borders www.borders.com . You can also check www.bookfinder4u.com to find a bookseller in your country.

Sports Tours move in on Triathlon
The UK's largest multi-sports tour operator, Sports Tours International, has added another specialist department to their expanding business. The new addition is triathlons and is set to take triathletes around the world to major events.
Sports Tours identified triathlons as a growth area and that international travel was important to many competitors and enthusiasts. With a 25-year track record of assisting their customers to travel to events across the globe, it was a natural add-on to the already successful product offered from the Manchester based tour operator.
Commenting on the move into triathlons, Sports Tours Chief Executive Chris Bird said:
"Having been in the business for almost 18 months, I felt that the experience of our team and the skills they have, could provide a fantastic service to triathletes. This is very much a natural progression for us. We are the market leader in running tours from the UK to iconic races such as the New York Marathon, as well as being Europe’s number one cycling tour operator and the only official UK partner of the Tour de France."
Sports Tours are also the official travel partner to one of the World’s largest sporting events companies IMG, and will specialise in travel to triathlons in London, Stockholm and Barcelona. Closer to home, Sports Tours have teamed up with Tatton Park in Cheshire, as the official Sports travel partner for the inaugural Tatton Park Triathlon on June 8th.
Bird adds:
"Since our online triathlon announcement we have been inundated with enquiries from event organisers in the UK and around the world, looking to partner with us to offer our travel services to their competitors. It has not taken long for the word to get around regarding our move into triathlons. It has also been very helpful to have a successful 25-year track record in delivering a quality service to our customers too."
Additional to the triathlon race activity, Sports Tours will be offering specialist training camps in Lanzarote at Club La Santa, where they are the exclusive sales agents for the UK and Ireland.

Ironman UK modifies bike and run course for 2008
Just an FYI on the course modifications for the 2008 race:
IRONMAN UK are announcing that there will be some changes to the cycle and run routes at the 2008 IRONMAN UK Triathlon at Sherborne Castle on September 7th 2008.
The changes have been made to offer a potentially more spectator friendly course and have taken into account the feedback of athletes following the 2006 and 2007 races.
“Following on from a series of meetings between ourselves and our local partners, IRONMAN UK was given an opportunity to make some slight alterations to the 2008 routes. The majority of feedback we have received from the previous years regarded two sections of the course in particular and IRONMAN UK took the opportunity to change them”.
Organisers continue “The two main sections that athletes referred to were the footbridge/Dual Carriageway and the Bike lane at Dorchester. The changes we have made have removed these sections”.
IRONMAN UK organisers continue “We feel that the changes made, will offer the athletes a whole new experience, but without removing the aspects of IRONMAN UK which has made it such a challenge. There will still be the mix of fast technical descents with slow grinding hills and some spectacular scenery - should you have the energy to look!”
“Changes to any race course are not an easy task and cannot be done on a whim. This is especially so of IRONMAN UK and we have had to follow a lengthy consultation process with our partners in Highways, The Police, Councils, Road Marshals, Rotary, Raynet Communications and St John Medical, to ensure that the course can maintain the same level of safety and cover as before. It is has taken approximately 5 months to make the changes to this course”.
“Up until yesterday evening, the 2007 course was still scheduled to be used. Only after receiving full approval have we changed the course. WE would like to thank our partners for their assistance in this matter.”
The IRONMAN UK Triathlon takes place at Sherborne Castle on September 7th 2008 and a full field of 1500 athletes will take on the challenge of the 2.4mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2mile marathon run.

Athletes receive 2 year ban from Ironman events
Athletes Banned!
It was brought to our attention that two athletes competed in the Spec-Savers Ironman 70.3 SA under someone else's race number. We at Triangle have a strict ruling that prohibits this due to the fact that, firstly it breaks one of the race rules that athletes agree to comply with and secondly, it puts the athlete in immense danger should they sustain an injury during the race.
Triangle SA, after investigating these offences, has had to ban Shane Bridges and Deon Milson from participating in any Ironman events over a two-year period. Shane has been banned due to fact that he allowed Deon to race using his race number and Deon has been banned because he raced using someone else's race number and details.
Why do we take such a stand against this offence?
- According to the Athlete Information Guide pg 8 point 14 - Rules Appling to All Segments of the Race:
"Ironman South Africa does not allow the transfer of an athlete's registration - no exceptions will be made to this rule. Any attempt to transfer registration will result in disqualification and suspension from future participation in any Ironman event."
- Should an injury occur during the race your medical details (according to your race number) will be given to the medical staff. If this information is incorrect it could result in serious repercussions.
It is with regret that we have had to take such action but were left with no other choice - we will not allow the event to be brought into disrupt do to this type of offence.

Triathlon Training In Iraq Thanks To A Fastlane Pool
Endless Pools Inc. Supports Triathlete Deployed in Iraq With Free Fastlane Pool
(PRWEB) January 10, 2008 -- Army physician Aaron Dewees simply wanted to train for an Ironman triathlon while deployed in the Middle East. But there was just one tiny glitch: The lack of a decent pool to swim in. After all, the pool on Camp Tiji, an Army base just outside of Iraq, left little to be desired - the water averaged a steamy 95 degrees, for starters, and closed up for most of the year.
That's when Endless Pools, Inc., the leader in counter-current swimming machines, stepped in. Upon receiving a written request from Dewees, company president and founder James Murdock offered to donate his most versatile product, the Fastlane Pool system, to Dewee's 1st Brigade Combat Team. A pool arrived on base in late September, 2007, and now, Dewees and 3,600 of his fellow troops can swim - and rehabilitate - year round in the 8 by 15 feet self-contained swimming treadmill.
"I never really thought my request would be granted, mostly because the shipping costs alone would be outrageous. However, within weeks, a pool arrived at Camp Taji," says Dewees. "And even after we realized we needed different pumps, the folks at Endless Pools once again showcased their generosity by sending new equipment free of charge."
Follows Mark Langan, marketing director for Endless Pools, "We were blown away by Aaron's ambition and dedication to triathlon, and we couldn't think of a better way to support his goals than to provide him with an essential training tool, while also offering injured soldiers a valuable rehabilitation option."
While the pool's primary purpose is for aquatic therapy for any injured soldiers stationed at the base, Dewees trains in the temperature-controlled Fastlane three times a week as he prepares for Ironman Arizona on April 13, 2008. But the 30-year-old father of three isn't just shooting to complete the race; he's also on a mission to raise $50,000 for the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund (www.cfsrf.org), an organization very near to his heart--and his career.
"As an Army physician in Iraq, it is my duty to care for the health and well-being of our soldiers, and as an American, it's my duty to honor the service and sacrifice our fallen heroes and their families. I'm dedicating my race to them," says Dewees.
To support Dewee's fundraising efforts, visit http://www.kinterainc.com/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=232397&supid=196671437
About Endless Pools: Endless Pools, Inc., headquartered in Aston, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia, was founded in 1988 by James Murdock to manufacture and sell counter-current swimming pools for residential and commercial use. Over the last twenty years, more than 10,000 Endless Pools have been sold and installed in over 50 countries.
